Note: Marks for all the qualifying papers, i.e., the preliminary and mains (general english) qualifying papers, are not counted for the final merit list.
A. Prelims is qualifying (150 questions – 150 marks; no negative marking)
B. Mains has 1 qualifying English paper + 6 main papers
C. Marks from the remaining six papers (i.e., out of 900 marks) are considered for final selection
This test is meant for short-listing the number of candidates to be admitted to the Written Main Examination (Conventional Type), i.e., consisting of six compulsory papers. It is an objective-type exam comprising General Studies and Mental Ability.
The general English paper is for qualifying one, and the standard of this paper is that of S.S.C. (X class standard).
Candidates should write three essays, selecting one from each section compulsorily.
Each section contains three questions. Each essay carries 50 marks.

SC/ST/BC/EWS: 5 years
State Govt. Employee: 5 years maximum based on the length of regular service
Ex-Serviceman: 3 years and the length of service
NCC Instructor: 3 years
No, there is no negative marking in the Group 1 exam.
